Objective
Our group wants to combat the increased use of screen time and brain rotting by creating an app where users have to earn screen time.
Problem
On average people spend roughly 6-7 hours a day on their screen, and as of 2024 18–24 year olds spent 3 hours on social media.
Solution
Many screen time apps will take away screen time after a user has reached a certain amount of time, but we want to start the user out with having to earn their screen time.
The Results
To test our app, we completed user testing on a small focused group of 5 participants, all between the ages of 18-35.
Each participant completed a task based testing evaluated on a pass/fail basis, alongside confidence and satisfaction surveys administered at three points throughout the testing process.
The outcome of this testing was a 98% pass rate on all of our tasks. We received high confidence and satisfaction ratings on our three main tasks. We also received minor feedback that was implemented into our final design.
